Simon Edwards – Aerial Rigger

I am based in North Wales, working as a rigger and rigging consultant for local performers and companies as well as further afield across the UK and Europe. The foundation of my rigging expertise is based on a professional rock climbing and mountaineering career over many years.

Also in the past I worked as a volunteer for Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, based in North Wales, (LLMRT), learning and developing complex rope rescue techniques in a variety of challenging mountain environments.  I am a fully qualified and experienced first aider with extensive experience in both urban and remote emergency care.

I now apply the ‘problem solving’ aspects of mountain climbing and rescue to rigging for aerial performances.  Although I do work in theatres and regular performance venues, my main area of expertise is rigging for harness work at site-specific locations such as the outside of listed buildings, details of which can be found on my portfolio page. The challenges of rigging from structures and buildings not normally used for performances is one that I relish, working with choreographers and performers to realise their artistic concepts.  I also have performed harness work myself and as such I am sympathetic to the aesthetics of movement and performance. 

In addition to learning from other aerial rigging experts I have also attended a rigging course for aerial performances with High Performance a highly regarded London based aerial rigging company.  I am also a freelance member of BECTU, the main body that represents workers in the Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematography and Theatre sectors and as such I have Public Liability Insurance for my rigging work.
